Rejoice, Believe

“Rejoice” “Believe”

The words written in white lights taunted from the banks the Pecos River. Admirable sentiments.

Marley, Avery, Mike’s mom Dinny Bomberg, brother Alex, sister in law Angela, nieces Sophie and Elena and I rode a pontoon boat down the river in Carlsbad, NM to view the holiday lights, an annual town event from Thanksgiving to New Years’ eve. Two miles of river with houses decorated for the holidays. The kids loved it. We all snuggled in blankets and saw the magic of lights at night, complete with miniature carousels, trees, “The Grinch” playing on a movie screen, Nativity scenes and on and on as Christmas music played on the boat.

It should have been purely a nice time.

Yet silent tears rolled down my checks as I wondered whether the meaning of those words will ever touch my soul again in this lifetime.
